A2 practice questions

Here are 12 sample questions for the A2 add-on test, with answers and explanations. The test has 30 multiple-choice questions, you need 75 % to pass, and you sit it under supervision at an authorised drone school. Try to answer before you tap “Show answer”.

  1. Question 1

You are flying a C2 drone in subcategory A2 in normal mode. What is the minimum horizontal distance to uninvolved people?

    • A5 metres.
    • B15 metres.
    • C30 metres.
    • D150 metres.
    Show answer

    Correct answer: C. 30 metres.

In A2 you must stay at least 30 metres horizontally from uninvolved people. With low-speed mode switched on, you may go down to 5 metres.

  2. Question 2

How close to uninvolved people may you fly a C2 drone in low-speed mode?

    • A1 metre.
    • B5 metres.
    • C10 metres.
    • D20 metres.
    Show answer

    Correct answer: B. 5 metres.

In low-speed mode the distance may be reduced to 5 metres horizontally. You still need to judge wind, terrain and how people are moving.

  3. Question 3

Which drone class is subcategory A2 meant for?

    • AC2, up to 4 kg.
    • BC3, up to 25 kg.
    • CC4, without automatic functions.
    • DAny drone under 25 kg without a class label.
    Show answer

Correct answer: A. C2, up to 4 kg.

A2 is for class C2 drones, which weigh less than 4 kg. C3, C4 and unclassed drones over 250 grams are flown in A3, far from people.

  4. Question 4

After passing the A2 test, what else must you do before the qualification is complete?

    • ATake a practical flight test with Transportstyrelsen.
    • BDeclare that you have completed practical self-training.
    • CGet a medical certificate.
    • DRegister each drone by serial number.
    Show answer

Correct answer: B. Declare that you have completed practical self-training.

For A2 you must declare that you have completed the practical flight exercises. You do this on Drönarsidan under “Intyga flygövningar” (declare flight exercises).

  5. Question 5

Where do you sit the A2 theory test in Sweden?

    • AAt home on your computer, wherever you like.
    • BAt a car driving school.
    • CSupervised at an authorised drone school (ADS).
    • DAt the nearest airport.
    Show answer

Correct answer: C. Supervised at an authorised drone school (ADS).

The A1/A3 test can be taken online from anywhere, but the A2 test must be taken under supervision at an authorised drone school (ADS).

  6. Question 6

You are flying a C2 drone at 45 metres near uninvolved people. What does the 1:1 rule say about your distance to them?

    • AAt least 45 metres horizontally.
    • BAt least 30 metres, whatever the height.
    • CAt least 90 metres horizontally.
    • DHeight makes no difference to the distance.
    Show answer

Correct answer: A. At least 45 metres horizontally.

Under the 1:1 rule, the horizontal distance must be at least equal to the height. At 45 metres that means at least 45 metres, which is more than the basic 30-metre requirement.

  7. Question 7

The wind at ground level is light. What can you usually expect at 100 metres?

    • AThe same wind as on the ground.
    • BLess wind, because the air is thinner.
    • CStronger wind, because the ground no longer slows the air as much.
    • DNo wind at all.
    Show answer

Correct answer: C. Stronger wind, because the ground no longer slows the air as much.

Friction with the ground slows the wind near the surface. Higher up it is often windier, which affects both battery use and how the drone behaves.

  8. Question 8

You attach a heavier payload to the drone. What happens to its performance?

    • AFlight time gets longer because the drone is more stable.
    • BFlight time gets shorter and the drone responds more slowly.
    • CNothing, the motors fully compensate.
    • DThe drone can fly higher than 120 metres.
    Show answer

Correct answer: B. Flight time gets shorter and the drone responds more slowly.

More mass needs more thrust. The battery drains faster and the drone is slower to brake and turn, especially in wind.

  9. Question 9

What is the maximum speed of a C2 drone with low-speed mode switched on?

    • A1 m/s.
    • B3 m/s.
    • C5 m/s.
    • D10 m/s.
    Show answer

    Correct answer: B. 3 m/s.

Low-speed mode on a C2 drone limits its speed to no more than 3 m/s. That is why you may fly closer to people when the mode is on.

  10. Question 10

Who counts as an involved person?

    • AEveryone within 30 metres.
    • BSomeone taking part in the flight, or who has been briefed and agreed to be there.
    • CAnyone watching the drone.
    • DOnly the pilot.
    Show answer

Correct answer: B. Someone taking part in the flight, or who has been briefed and agreed to be there.

Involved people take part in the operation or know the risks and have agreed to be in the area. Everyone else is uninvolved, and the distance rules apply to them.

  11. Question 11

Where is the GNSS position most likely to become unreliable?

    • AOver an open field.
    • BBetween tall buildings in a city.
    • COver a lake on a clear day.
    • DHigh above a forest.
    Show answer

Correct answer: B. Between tall buildings in a city.

Tall buildings block satellites and signals bounce off walls. The position can jump and the drone can drift. Be ready to fly without position hold.

  12. Question 12

Since 1 January 2026, what applies if you fly a 300-gram drone without a drone licence?

    • AIt is allowed if you have an operator ID.
    • BYou only get a written warning.
    • CIt is a criminal offence that can lead to day-fines, or prison in the most serious cases.
    • DIt is only prohibited near airports.
    Show answer

Correct answer: C. It is a criminal offence that can lead to day-fines, or prison in the most serious cases.

Since 1 January 2026, flying a drone of 250 grams or more without a drone licence is a criminal offence. The penalty can be 30–150 day-fines, and in the most serious cases up to six months in prison.
