Where can I fly a drone in Sweden?
Airports, restricted areas and nature areas, and the map to check before every flight.

Short answer
LFV’s drone map
The drone map (Drönarkartan) from LFV, the Swedish air navigation service provider, is an interactive map that works on your phone. It is based on official aeronautical information and shows:
- airports and their airspace (control zones, CTR, and other zones such as TIZ and ATZ)
- restricted areas and danger areas
- temporary airspace changes affecting drones (NOTAM)
The map is not a flight briefing service but an aid; you are responsible for following the rules. Manufacturers’ built-in geofencing does not always match Swedish rules, so do not rely on the drone’s app alone.
Near airports
- Closer than 5 km to an airport’s runways: you need permission from air traffic control for each flight.
- In the rest of the control zone: you may fly without permission if you stay below 50 metres above the ground. At some military airfields the limit is 10 metres.
- Heliports: within 1,000 metres you may only fly in consultation with the heliport.
To fly in a control zone where LFV provides air traffic control, email obemannadeluftfartyg@lfv.se and you will get instructions.
Restricted areas
Flying over places such as prisons, nuclear power plants, some nature areas and military areas is prohibited without permission. Some restricted areas are always active, others only when there is activity. They are shown on the drone map. You apply for permission to Transportstyrelsen.
Danger areas
You should not fly in danger areas unless you have judged that it can be done safely. Temporary danger areas are published through NOTAM, among other channels, and appear on the drone map.
Nature reserves and national parks
In nature reserves and national parks, taking off and landing may require permission from the county administrative board (länsstyrelsen). Check the rules for the area before you go.
Photos and video
To share, publish or sell aerial photos or video of Sweden, you need a dissemination permit from Lantmäteriet. Applying is free.
The basic rules apply everywhere: no higher than 120 metres, within sight and never over crowds. See all drone rules.
